Regular readers of this newsletter know that opening a retail space is hard work - and running one is even harder. And yet, so many of us are determined enough to attempt it - but how can you know whether you have what you need to pull it off?

We get asked this question all the time - "I have a dream of opening a [coffee shop/ crossfit gym/ vegan steakhouse], but I don't have any [money/ experience/ connections with seitan distributors]. Can I do this?

Our answer is always the same - yes, you can!

We are big believers that where there's a will there's a way. The road may not be easy, or obvious - in fact, it rarely is. Fundraising is awkward at best, defeating at worst. Recruiting experienced advisors and employees takes patience and time. Explaining the difference between seitan and tofu to your rich aunt Deborah for the 47th time is exhausting.

But all of it CAN be done, and we hold this belief very close to our core at Pedal. And it is our mission to help new retailers discover how.

We're going to tell you a little bit more about our methods in our next post, but, spoiler alert - it's not about reading The Secret or manifesting success.

For now, just know that there ARE no hard and fast prerequisites for becoming a retailer - you can find/ create/ buy/ jerry-rig pretty much everything you need along the way.
